"My Mom had cancer when I was three years old and it took its toll on our entire family but it really brought us together in a way as well, because sticking together is so important when you’re affected by something as heavy as that, and it had been misdiagnosed. She had many, many chemo treatments . . . radiation . . . and she had a bone marrow transplant. It was very intense and difficult and because of that I know what people have to go through, or at least have an idea, everybody’s situation is different of course. But, just six months ago my mom’s cancer came back, so it’s been difficult for us dealing with that and difficult on a whole new level because we’re all older. I have three older brothers and we were all very young at the time, but my oldest brother was 11 when my mom first had cancer so he understood. The rest of us had the gift of naïveté on our side so we really didn’t understand the fullness of it all, but now we do. And of course it was 15 years in remission so we assumed it was gone but now that’s back, it’s horrible. So I wanted to be a part of anything that’s helping to find a cure for this because it’s affecting so many people and taking so many lives."
